A few steps after completing a fascinating walk over Charles’ Bridge, you find yourself in the picturesque Karlova Street, which is the main artery of the Royal Road linking Malá Strana and the Old Town Square. Halfway down Karlova Street, in the UNITARIA Palace, is one of the city’s greatest cultural tourist attractions – the world-famous TA FANTASTIKA PRAHA black-light theatre.

The company was founded in 1980 in the United States by Petr Kratochvíl, an émigré from the former Czechoslovakia. After the revolution in 1989, Petr Kratochvíl returned home, where in 1993 he obtained the UNITARIA Palace in the historical centre of Prague and turned it into the home of TA FANTASTIKA Theatre.

The new theatre immediately made a na me for itself both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and in the past few years has toured in more than thirty countries across three continents. In contrast to other black-light theatres, the repertoire is made up of large, classical performances based on novels, such as “Don Quixote”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Little Prince”, as well as original plays such as “Magic Fantasy”, “Dream” and “The Garden of Earthly Delights”. All of our theatre’s performances however, are nonverbal. The only language is that of movement, music, black-light and mechanical effects, puppets, and in particular, large-screen projections, which communicate with the actors. A visual, creative world, room for fantasy, the poetry of the magic lantern – all of these come together to make up the world of TA FANTASTIKA Theatre. Thanks to these creative approaches which break down language barriers and are understood by all, our performances are successful and popular throughout the world. “Aspects of Alice”, which has been running for an unbelievable 20 years, has been performed more than 7,000 times all over the world.

About the performance:
Aspects of Alice
A classic black theatre performance based on the motifs of “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll, which has won the hearts of audiences in over thirty countries on three continents for its imagination, poetry and technical wizardry. It is not a literal transaction for the stage, but takes up the story where Alice ceases to be a little girl. The author allows Alice, with the aid of our fantasy, to experience the wonderful moments of growing up: first love, an awakening adulthood and awareness of life, laughter and tears, joy and sadness. All this takes place against the background of Old Prague, a city of architectural jewels and rich historical associations, but also the crossroads of Christian and Jewish culture.

The creative direction, the large-scale projections and animated film made especially for this production, the puppets, amazing tricks and black theatre special effects, the exciting contemporary music alongside classical music by Bedřich Smetana (My Fatherland) and Antonín Dvořák (The Slavic Dances) mixed with your own fantasy – all this and more makes for an incredible theatrical experience you won’t see on any other stage.

Performances daily at 7 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.
